Alternative power sources are regularly sought after with environmentally friendly  options in regard to pollutants that lease into the  atmosphere. True power alternatives can be provided uninterrupted to remote areas irrespective of climate conditions, specifically on required monitoring instrumentation.  Solar panels can be used as additional power feeds into the required power grid with time periods being extended to 12 months on visiting remote sites.  Suitable power of up to 25 watts can be utilised although the general demand for instrumentation and communications  less than 5 watts. Safety is provided with the methanol fueled cells as methanol canisters are available in easily transportable units of 10 or 20 litre capacity, with interlinks between the canisters to extend the time to visit the remote sites as the byproduct is water.
